Rabbits: I bred 2. Amelia and Hope. The normal signs of a successful mating is when the buck grunts and falls off. This happened with Hope, but not with Amelia.
Amelia: I tried breeding her several days in a row. No fall offs, even though she was lifting. Poor Chester is only about half her size, so I just figured he wasn't hitting the mark. Rabbit are induced ovulators, meaning they only release eggs when bred (normally within 24hrs) After about the 3rd day of trying, she started getting grumpy with him. About 2 weeks later I palpated her positive! Boy was I surprised.
Fast forward to yesterday. Nest building began. I thought for sure she'd have babies out there this morning, but no. Came home at lunch to check on her and there were 5 beautiful babies! This is her largest litter, and everything seems very good! This is also the earliest in the year I've ever had a litter born. Great news for 4Hr's.
Hope: A few successful falloffs. Palpated positive. Nest box will go in tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
